VCU’s moto as formulated in Latin reads, scientia spiritus value, which means science has no value without spiritual integrity. This reiterates our Christian vocation to educate and train men and women to take biblical values and principles very seriously, since without such, the transformative power of science becomes of no effect. At VCU, we endeavor to create a revolution in Christian leadership because we believe that positive change is possible but requires transformative mentality to influence society. We believe, the social, political, and economical challenges we face would be altered only when Christian believers would be able to correctly re-define our priorities, embrace bible-based Christian values, and internalize Christian principles for practical purposes as we seek to address issues we are faced with, including corruption, hunger, poverty, continued wars, and ethnic violence due (in most cases) to leadership crisis.
In response, the academic program at VCU is geared toward producing Christian servant-leaders, meticulously prepared to lead public affairs with Christian integrity that would result in Christian love and respect for others, an efficiency in problem-solving, as we seek to address issues and challenges we face daily. At VCU, our staff and students are committed to the above vision to be empowered to become community leaders capable of living and leading by example as we emulate a Bible-based Christianity that seeks the glory of God and the benefits of God’s people.
For this reason, VCU seeks to participate in God’s mission in the world by bringing a Christ-centered worldview to bear on the pursuit of learning, knowledge, research, and its relevance to both God’s mission and societal change in the African context.
